“We’ve been left to die” British dad stuck in Afghanistan with wife and children cries out

A British dad stuck in Afghanistan has cried out as he is being forced to choose between abandoning his children or remaining in danger.

The Bradford father was left bleeding and terrified after a horror knife attack during an attempted kidnapping in Kabul this month.

He claims thugs attacked him because of his UK citizenship and he’s now in fear for his life, hiding along with his wife and two young children.

The man’s whole family was included in an evacuation list in August but the dad has since been told that he alone is eligible for evacuation.

His wife and two children are Afghans, though his children may be entitled to British citizenship.

Speaking of the UK Government, the father said: “They don’t care about us. How can they do this to their own citizens?

“They are supposed to help their citizens, not leave them to their deaths.”

Since the Taliban came to power, Brits remaining in Afghanistan face extreme danger.

Recalling how he was attacked in Kabul earlier this month, the British father said: “I was going to the pharmacy to get insulin because I am diabetic.

“On the way back from the pharmacy, a car stopped and three people came out.

“They grabbed my hand. They had weapons with them and their faces were covered.

“They had knives. They were kidnapping me. I don’t know who they were because I couldn’t recognise them.

“They had the same dress as the Taliban.

“It wasn’t a random attack. It was organised because I am British.”

The father has been attacked in “multiple incidents” and even had his driving licence taken off him because it has a British flag on it.

He’s now unable to even go outside for fear of further violence.

The victim was born in Afghanistan but moved to the UK as a teenager in the mid-2000s with his family – he has since become a British citizen.

In 2014, he married an Afghan woman, with whom he has a four-year-old daughter and a 10-month-old son.

But his wife hasn’t been able to get a UK visa, leaving her and their two children to live in Afghanistan.

Imran Hussain, the Labour MP for Bradford East, has been attempting to help the attacked father, who is his constituent, for months.

Hussain said: “I’ve been dealing with this case since the fall of Kabul in August, and I’ve raised it repeatedly at the highest levels of Government, including with the Prime Minister in Parliament, as well as with the Foreign Secretary, the Home Secretary and the Defence Secretary.

“However, no Minister has provided me with any real, meaningful response, even as my constituent’s life and the life of his family are in danger.

“Despite being a British national, the Government have abandoned him in Afghanistan and placed his young wife and children in harm’s way by ejecting them from Kabul Airport into dangerous streets where a horrific suicide attack took place just hours before.

“If this was not bad enough, they now refuse to allow his family to join him on flights out of the country, forcing him to choose between taking a flight and deserting his family, or remaining in Afghanistan.

“Given the very real danger that my constituent and his family are now in, with threats against his life and the life of his family, the Government and the Foreign Secretary must treat this case seriously, and urgently work to ensure that he is allowed safe passage back to the UK or to a third country alongside his family, before it is too late.”

Russia warns war with Ukraine is ‘highly likely’ as US vows to respond to invasion

Ukraine and Russia are “highly likely” to go to war, the Kremlin has said as Russian troops have been told to be ‘combat ready’ in response to a suspected invasion by Ukraine.

Crimea is internationally recognized as a territory of Ukraine but was annexed by Russia in 2014.

Russia now says it might enter into conflict with Ukraine if Ukraine acts like it wants to ‘reclaim’ the territory.

President Vladimir Putin has also ordered US officials to leave Russia immediately as he plans to order an invasion of Ukraine, before the end of January, according to the Sun.

In recent weeks Russian tanks have been seen moving close to the border with Ukraine. And there are fears President Vladimir Putin is on the brink of ordering his forces into Ukraine.

Allied nations including the EU and United States have responded by issuing declarations of solidarity with the Ukrainian government.

Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow is worried about the possibility of a Ukrainian military move in Crimea.

He said: “Speaking in parliament, Zelensky said that the return of Crimea should be the main goal and philosophy of Ukraine.

“We see this as a direct threat to Russia.

“Such wording of course means that the Kiev regime intends to use all available means – including force – in order to encroach on a Russian region.

“This is how we are leaning towards perceiving it.”

Andrei Kelin, Russia’s ambassador to the UK, now says there is “a pretty serious risk” of war between the countries.

He said “There is a risk of war on our border. It’s pretty serious.

“There is a possibility that there is a spark and an incident can occur. Nato is stepping up its presence along the borders of the Russian federation.

“We have lots of manoeuvring now in the Baltic Sea. We have strategic aviation, with nuclear warheads, flying 20km close to the borders.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s £12.9m move from Juventus to Manchester United under investigation from Italian prosecutors

Italian prosecutors have ordered a new search of Juventus offices as part of an ongoing probe into the Serie A club as they are also examining the financial terms of the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo, the company said in a statement.

Turin prosecutors announced last week that they were already looking into whether senior managers at Juventus gave false communications to investors and issued invoices for non-existent transactions.

The club reiterated it was fully collaborating with authorities on the matter.

The club’s offices in Turin and Milan were raided by police last Friday with player contracts, invoices and financial statements taken as evidence.

It follows claims that Juventus falsely recorded the values of transfers between 2019 and 2021 to enable them to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Italian authorities took documents relating to transfers, invoices, and financial statements with six Juventus officials – including club president Andrea Agnelli and vice-president Pavel Nedved under investigation, as well as the club.

Fabio Paratici, who was Juve’s sporting director before taking up a similar role with Tottenham last summer, is also under investigation. A probe by Italy’s football watchdog COVISOC and finance regulator Consob has already been opened.

Earlier this week, the £47million deal for Cristian Romero to Tottenham in August, the same day he left Juventus for Atalanta for just £13.5m, is one of 42 transfers being scrutinised by police amid claims of false accounting.

Other Juventus deals being probed include Manchester City’s £27.4m signing of Joao Cancelo two years ago.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims there are recordings of phone calls where Juventus directors talk about a ‘document that should not have theoretically existed’ in relation to Ronaldo, but investigators are yet to find the document in question.

The Juventus directors who have been questioned by prosecutors so far have also reportedly failed to explain the nature of the deal that was struck with Ronaldo, who scored 101 goals in 134 appearances for the Italian giants.

Former world athletics chief Lamine Diack dies at 88

Lamine Diack, the former head of global athletics who was convicted last year of running a clique that covered up Russian doping in exchange for €3.2m (£2.7m) worth of bribes, has died at the age of 88.

Diack, one of the most powerful figures in world sport for nearly two decades, was also named in a Brazilian court of being paid $2 million (£1.5m) in exchange for up to nine votes that helped Rio win the right to stage the 2016 Olympic Games.

The news of Diack’s passing was confirmed by his son, Papa Massata, who said that “He died at home around 2am of a natural death.”

Diack held the French/West African long jump record, helped to coach the Senegal national football team, and became mayor of Dakar, then a senior politician in his home country.

Diack, who led the International Association of Athletics Federations from 1999 to 2015, was also an influential International Olympic Committee member.

As IAAF president he devised a scheme dubbed “full protection”, in which 23 Russian athletes paid between €100,000 and €600,000 in exchange for having their doping bans hushed up so they could compete at the London 2012 Olympics and at the 2013 Moscow world championships.

In September 2020 Diack was sentenced to four years in prison for bribery and corruption, with two years suspended. In announcing her ruling, Judge Rose-Marie Hunault, said Diack had “undermined the values of athletics and the fight against doping” with his actions. “You violated the rules of the game,” she added.

Incredibly, the French court also found that Diack Sr had agreed the “full protection” agreement with the then Russian sports minister, Vitaly Mutko in exchange for funding to help his friend Macky Sall win the 2012 Senegalese presidential election.

Diack remained under house arrest in France but was later released on bail and allowed to return to Senegal after the French authorities were given a €500,000 (£515,000) bond by Cheikh Seck, the owner of Senegalese football club Jaraaf.

“He was a good man, a great leader,” said Seck after Diack’s death. “We wanted him to come back home. It was really important, we never imagined he could finish his life somewhere else.”

Diack’s son, Papa Massata, was also ruled to have been at the heart of the scandal alongside him but fled to Senegal and was tried in absentia. He was given a five-year jail sentence last year, which his lawyers said they would appeal. Other senior IAAF figures, including the head of doping Gabriel Dollé, were also convicted for their part in the scheme.

Diack Sr’s name was also pivotal in the trial of senior Brazilian figures who were convicted for their part in a bribery scheme that secured the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games for Rio.

The former Rio de Janeiro governor Sérgio Cabral, said Diack and Carlos Arthur Nuzman, the former president of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, had colluded to win the Games for Rio.

“Nuzman came to me and said: ‘Sérgio, I want to tell you that the IAAF president, Lamine Diack, is a person that is open to undue advantages. He can secure five or six votes. In exchange, he wants $1.5m (£1.13m)’,” Cabral said.

Cabral added in court testimony that he paid $2m to Lamine Diack, which was used to buy as many as nine votes to help Rio beat Madrid, Chicago, and Tokyo to the 2016 Games.

Cabral told judge Marcelo Bretas that Nuzman assured him the scheme would work because Diack had a history of such practices.

“I said: ‘Nuzman, what are our guarantees here? And he said: ‘Traditionally he sells four, five, six votes. There is a risk that we don’t get through to the second round [of voting].’”

Last week Nuzman was sentenced to more than 30 years in prison after being found guilty of corruption, criminal organization, money laundering and tax evasion.

Cabral, already serving a 200-year sentence for other corruption-related offences, was also convicted.

Jonah 4:2
(2) So he prayed to the LORD, and said, “Ah, LORD, was not this what I said when I was still in my country? Therefore I fled previously to Tarshish; for I know that You are a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents from doing harm.
New King James Version Change your email Bible version
God’s patience delays His wrath, allowing time for good to occur. We should also note the other qualities patience is combined with here and in Exodus 34:6. In combination with patience, the qualities of grace, mercy, lovingkindness, goodness, and truth allow God to work with people so they can remain alive and eventually transform into His image. If God struck out at people just as short-fused humans frequently do, no one would be alive today. Jonah, in a typically human reaction, wanted God to wipe the sinners of Nineveh, Israel’s enemy, off the face of the earth!
Nineveh was undoubtedly just as full of sinners as Israel. But God, bearing patiently with them in their ignorance, sent Jonah to proclaim His warning message to them: Destruction would fall on them in forty days. They, however, believed the message, proclaimed a fast, prayed mightily to God, repented, and turned from their evil ways. Their repentance may not have been Davidic, but under the circumstances God was pleased.
