Bride faints on groom, vomits, then gets defecated on during wedding vows

An unlucky bride fainted on the groom before her nephew defecated on her wedding gown while she was vomiting.

Hollee Lynnea-Kolenda Darnell, 22, who is from the US city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, got hitched recently to new hubby, Jackson, at a ceremony in Florida.

Though the day started well, a sudden bout of sickness caused her to swoon into her concerned hubby’s arms during their vows.

Her worried sweetheart can be heard asking whether she is okay as she comes back around.

Hollee – dressed in a flowing, white bridal gown – shakes her head and stumbles over to the edge of the gazebo, and vomits over the side.

In the clip, which has since gone viral, her caption read: “I kept trying to tell my husband I didn’t feel good and he thought I was joking.”

The footage ended there, but the bride said there was still more bad wedding luck to come.

In the caption she wrote: “My baby nephew pooped on my dress right after while I was puking.”

Hollee later explained the reason for the sudden sickness.

In a follow-up video she said she hadn’t eaten or drunk enough water during her big day, leaving her “really dehydrated”.

She added: “It was also Florida, and it was so hot and humid that day.

“We were drenched, it was so hot.

“I’m also prone to passing out, my doctor says I have low blood pressure and low iron. I guess I was just doomed from the start.”

FG convenes special meeting of all health sector stakeholders over OMICRON

The Federal Ministry of Health has convened a special National Council on Health meeting.

The meeting involves all health commissioners across Nigeria’s 36 states and other stakeholders in the health sector to review the gains and lessons learnt from COVID-19 management towards building a more resilient health sector.

At the opening of the two-day NCH meeting on Thursday in Abuja, health minister Osagie Ehanire explained that Nigerians must remain alert as new variants of the virus, which are more contagious and virulent, power new waves of infections.

“Just in the last few days, we have heard of the new omicron variant, supposedly emerging from southern Africa, which has been labelled a variant of concern, and starting a new round of drastic measures like restrictions of flights and movement likely to hurt economic activities of countries,” Mr Ehanire stated.

The theme of the 2021 NCH is ‘The Journey to Attaining Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Applying Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic Towards Building A Resilient National Health System’.

Speaking further, the health minister pointed out, “And so, whether it’s a COVID-19 variant or a new attack, we must strengthen our health security architecture to ensure we are prepared at all times to detect, and respond, in the interest of the health of our population.”

U.S. nabs Nigerians in $4.1 million bank fraud

U.S. nabs Nigerians in $4.1 million bank fraud

Oyekanmi Oworu, age 35, of Hyattsville, Maryland, pleaded guilty yesterday to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and aggravated identity theft.

The guilty plea was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron and Special Agent in Charge Andrew McKay of the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration.

According to his guilty plea, between February 2017 and July 2020, Oworu conspired with co-defendant Babtunde Ajibawo, age 55, of Essex, United Kingdom and others to fraudulently obtain checks made out to legitimate businesses, then fraudulently register shell companies to obtain state business certificates in the identical or similar name of the legitimate businesses to which the checks were made payable.

The conspiracy also used the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) Modernized Internet Employer Identification Number (EIN) and the fraudulently obtained social security numbers of real individuals to obtain an EIN for the fraudulent business.

Specifically, on February 7, 2017, Oworu opened a bank account at a victim financial institution in the name of a real individual and deposited a stolen check made payable to a legitimate business for $265,168.20. Oworu subsequently withdrew the proceeds.

Additionally, on November 20, 2018, Oworu opened a bank account at a victim financial institution in a similar name of a legitimate business using the means and identification of A.S, a real individual.

After opening the account, Oworu deposited a stolen check made payable to the legitimate business for $58,713.50. Video surveillance captured Oworu depositing the stolen check in Washington, D.C.

During the course of the scheme to defraud, Oworu communicated with co-conspirators regarding the allocation of stolen proceeds, including the money he would personally receive for opening fraudulent bank accounts and depositing stolen checks. Specifically, on May 2, 2019, Oworu asked Ajibawo to send $3,000 to him and the balance to another co-conspirator in Fayetteville, Georgia.

Further, as detailed in the Superseding Indictment, Oworu and his co-conspirators attempted to conceal their criminal actions and evade law enforcement by relocating the fraud scheme to other jurisdictions. A substantial part of a fraudulent scheme was committed from outside the United States, specifically Nigeria.

In total, Oworu and his co-conspirators intended to cause a loss of at least $4.1 million to victim businesses, caused an actual loss of at least $756,175.30, and compromised the identifying information of more than 50 individual victims.

Co-defendant Ajibawo pled guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud on July 8, 2021 and is scheduled to be sentenced on December 8, 2021 at 10 a.m.

Oworu faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison followed by up to five of supervised release for conspiracy to commit bank fraud and a mandatory two years in prison, consecutive to any other sentence for aggravated identity theft. As part of his plea agreement, Oworu will also be required to pay restitution. U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake has scheduled sentencing for March 10, 2022 at 9:15 a.m.

United States Attorney Erek L. Barron commended the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration for their work in the investigation. Mr. Barron thanked Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mary W. Setzer and Judson T. Mihok, who are prosecuting the case.

Germany has announced sweeping new restrictions for people who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19.

Omicron seems to carry higher Covid reinfection risk -South Africa

The Omicron variant of Covid-19 appears to be reinfecting people at three times the rate of previous strains, experts in South Africa have said, as public health officials and scientists from around the world closely monitor developments in the country where it was first identified.

As the EU’s public health agency warned that Omicron could cause more than half of all new Covid infections in Europe within the next few months, evidence was emerging, however, that vaccines still appear to offer protection against serious illness.

According to new evidence collected in South Africa by its National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) the latest epidemiological evidence suggests that Omicron can evade immunity from infection with earlier variants and is causing reinfections at three times previous rates.

The South African Centre for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis along with the NICD said the latest findings “provide epidemiological evidence for Omicron’s ability to evade immunity from prior infection”.

CHECK THIS:  How masked gunmen killed Lagos director in hotel

“We believe that previous infection does not provide protection from Omicron,” said Anne von Gottberg, an expert at the NICD.

In mid-November South Africa was reporting about 300 Covid cases a day. On Wednesday, it reported 8,561 new cases, up from 4,373 the day before and 2,273 on Monday.

Outlining early research into the newly emerged variant, Von Gottberg said doctors were seeing “an increase for Omicron reinfections [of Covid-19]”.

She said: “We believe the number of cases will increase exponentially in all provinces of the country. We believe that vaccines will still, however, protect against severe disease. Vaccines have always held out to protect against serious disease, hospitalisations and death.”

Scientists from the same institute have said initial data suggests that Omicron may provoke less severe illness than previous variants although that may be skewed by the fact that many of the first Omicron cases have been identified in younger individuals or detected in very recently screened travellers.

CHECK THIS:  Gunmen, joint security operatives in alleged 3 hours gun battle in Anambra

But even as South Africans have rushed to get vaccinated – nudged by President Cyril Ramaphosa’s warning on Sunday that stricter lockdowns may have to be imposed if vaccination rates don’t improve – Aslam Dasoo, of the Progressive Health Forum, warned that the recent increase in vaccinations may be insufficient.

“It’s not enough to make a dent in the fourth wave,” he told the country’s News 24 news channel. “The test positivity rate was 1% last Monday. And it is now in the double digits. We are in the teeth of the fourth wave. Everyone you know is a potential risk to you,” he said.

Alleged defilement: Court fixes Dec. 15 to rule on Baba Ijesha’s statement

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of an Ikeja Special Offences Court has fixed Dec. 15 to rule on the admissibility of the confessional statement of Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, who is facing allegations of defilement.

Taiwo fixed the date on Thursday after the prosecution and defence teams adopted their written addresses on the trial-within-trial.

Recall that during the court proceedings on Nov. 19, the defence, led by Mr Babatunde Ogala (SAN) and Mr Dada Awosika (SAN), had objected to the confessional statement of James, alias Baba Ijesha, being admitted as evidence.

The objection was predicated on the ground that the statement the Nollywood actor gave to the police was made under duress.

Taiwo, during the Nov. 19 proceedings, had granted their request for a trial-within-trial to determine the voluntariness of the statement.

After the trial-within-trial, she had adjourned for the adoption of written addresses.

During Thursday’s proceedings, Awosika, while adopting his written address, told the court that the defence had filed a response to that of the prosecution.

CHECK THIS:  Why I’ll not withdraw my daughter from her school in spite of the bullying allegations- Mercy Johnson

He objected to the submission of the prosecution that the defendant was not tortured.

Citing Section 35(1) of the Evidence Act, Awosika argued that in criminal matters, there are two burdens of proof, noting that “one can change and the other doesn’t change.”

He said that the defendant had put forward facts before the court that substantiate the use of oppression.

The counsel said, “It is for the court to look at the evidence by the defendant that he was handcuffed, beaten and forced to sit on the ground.

“Does that not qualify as evidence of oppression?”

Citing section 29(5) of the Evidence Act, Awosika argued further: “Even from the prosecution’s evidence, the defendant was sitting on the ground and shaking; one cannot make a statement under that condition.”

He urged the court to discountenance the submission of the prosecution.

Responding, the lead state prosecutor, Mr Yusuf Sule, contended that there was no evidence before the court that the defendant was oppressed while making his confessional statement.

CHECK THIS:  Gunmen kill NSCDC officer, 2 others, abduct 7 oil workers in Bayelsa

Sule said that the defendant told the court that he was beaten before he was brought to the police station.

This, he said, “means it was a mob attack from which he was rescued.”

He noted that the defendant was trying to mislead the court.

Sule urged the court to uphold that the confessional statement of Baba Ijesha was voluntarily made.

Following the adoption of the written addresses, Taiwo ordered a witness summon to be issued for a prosecution witness, Mr Brown Asuquo, mandating him to appear in court at the next adjourned date.

NAN reports that Baba Ijesha faces a six-count charge bordering on the indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by penetration.

Pope accepts resignation of archbishop of Paris after he admitted to ‘ambiguous’ relationship with a woman

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of the archbishop of Paris, who unexpectedly offered to step down last week after admitting to an ‘ambiguous’ relationship with a woman in 2012.

Paris Archbishop Michel Aupetit said in a statement that he offered to step down ‘to preserve the diocese from the division that suspicion and loss of trust are continuing to provoke.’

In their own statement, the Vatican said that the pope accepted Aupetit’s offer, and named Monsignor Georges Pontier to serve temporarily in his place pending the pontiff’s appointment of a permanent new archbishop.

Aupetit wrote to Pope Francis offering to resign following a report in Le Point magazine saying he had a consensual, intimate relationship with a woman.

Roman Catholic priests take vows of chastity and Aupetit told Le Point he didn’t have sexual relations with the woman.

The article in Le Point relied on several anonymous sources who said they had seen a 2012 e-mail Aupetit sent by mistake to his secretary – but Aupetit has denied being the author of the email.

At the time of the alleged relationship, Aupetit was a priest in the archdiocese of Paris – he only became Paris archbishop in 2018.

‘I ask forgiveness of those I could have hurt and assure you all of my deep friendship and my prayers,’ Aupetit said in his statement, adding that he was ‘greatly disturbed by the attacks against me.’

In an interview last week with Catholic radio Notre Dame, Aupetit said ‘I poorly handled the situation with a person who was in contact many times with me.’

CHECK THIS:  Ikoyi building collapse: 6 more survivors rescued, as death toll increases to 42

Calling it a ‘mistake,’ he said he decided no longer to see the woman after speaking with Cardinal Andre Vingt-Trois, the then-Paris archbishop, in 2012.

Only the pope can hire or fire bishops, or accept their resignations, and at 70, Aupetit is five years shy of the normal retirement age for bishops.

The timing of Aupetit’s announcement was unusual as it came as the pope and the Vatican hierarchy were en route to Cyprus at the start of a five-day trip.
