Dollar up along with S&P 500 ahead of US holiday

Wall Street stocks mostly rose and the dollar rallied Wednesday following a heavy load of mostly solid US economic data ahead of a holiday weekend.

While European equities remained pressured by worries over renewed Covid-19 restrictions, two of three major US indices advanced ahead of Thursday’s Thanksgiving holiday, when US markets are closed, and the next day’s “Black Friday” kickoff of the holiday shopping season.

The broad-based S&P 500 finished just shy of an all-time record as jobless claims hit their lowest level since 1969, while consumer income and spending both rose more than expected.

Not all of the reports were great. New home sales lagged expectations, while durable goods orders fell.

“As we look forward to Thanksgiving, there is much to be thankful for in this fiscally-stimulated recovery,” said Gregory Daco of Oxford Economics.

“Still, the recovery process isn’t complete, with spending on services well below its pre-pandemic trend, and the transition from the public- to private-driven growth will be delicate.”

Federal Reserve meeting minutes revealed increased concerns about higher prices as data showed inflation well above the central bank’s two-percent target, up to five percent in October 2021 compared with a year earlier.

CHECK THIS:  Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados – public intellectual

The minutes added to expectations of a speedier tightening of monetary policy.

They also boosted the dollar, which was “supported by rising yields amid faster tapering expectations, stronger data and troubles for the eurozone with surging Covid cases,” said ThinkMarkets analyst Fawad Razaqzada.

New Covid measures
Back in Europe, the DAX in Germany ended the day 0.4 percent lower after a centre-left-led alliance of parties announced a deal to form the next government, putting the Social Democrats in charge for the first time in 16 years.

The transition comes as markets weigh the risk of additional Covid-19 restrictions in Europe.

The European Union health agency Wednesday called on member states to “urgently” introduce anti-Covid measures to reduce the potentially “very high” burden the disease will have in December and January.

Elsewhere, oil prices inched lower in a partial reversal of Tuesday’s rally in response to the announcement that the United States and five other countries would release oil from their strategic reserves.

The head of the International Energy Agency on Wednesday called on OPEC and its allies to take measures to help bring oil prices down to “reasonable levels.”

Members of the OPEC+ group of countries are scheduled to review their strategy at a meeting in December, including whether they will follow through on earlier plans to boost output.

Police deny having records of detainee suspect, Ezeala

As Counsel Insists On Video, Picture Evidence
The Nigerian police on Thursday told the Independent Investigative Panel on human rights violations by the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and other police units in Abuja, that Eric Ezeala, who was arrested by the officers of the Intelligence Response Team in 2017, is not in their custody and there is no record of his arrest, detention and custody with the police.

Barrister Blessing Ezeala, the OC legal of the IGP-IRT disclosed to the panel that the police have no record of arrest or detention of Eric Ezeala.
“We have checked our records and there are no traces of this case in our file and I humbly request the panel to provide copies of the petition and other documents related to this matter,” the police counsel said.

The Justice Suleiman Galadima (rtd), however, rejected her submission and told her that the burden is on the IRT to explain the whereabouts of Eric Ezeala because there was a video (tendered by the family and admitted as exhibit by panel), which was circulated on social media showing the, then IRT Commander, Abba Kyari parading Eric Ezeala alongside others as criminals.

One of the panelists, John Aikpokpo Martins, told the OC legal IRT that the burden is on IRT to explain the whereabouts of Eric because of the pictorial evidence submitted by family of the victim.

Blessing Ezeala of the OC Legal IRT was reminded that the panel at the last sitting, specifically ordered for the appearance of two officers, the IRT Commander and Second in Charge (2 IC).

In response to the position of the panel with respect to the whereabouts of the victim, the police lawyer read out a message from the IGP-IRT office, which says, “It’s our wish to be here to honour the panel’s invitation, however, based on the security situation of the country, they (IRT Commander and the 2IC) are unavoidably absent. IRT Commander is in Kaduna over the issue of terrorism and kidnapping.

“Upon receipt of the summons from the panel, I immediately published a signal, requesting that any operative who knows about the case should come up. There was no feedback. I checked our system and there was no clue or information about Eric Ezeala.”

Justice Galadima (rtd) adjourned the petition till December 15, 2021, to enable police counsel, Blessing Ezeala to provide the necessary information about the victims.

Don’t be political spectators, let your numbers count- Bello

Yahaya Bello of Kogi has called on Nigerian youths to make their numbers count and not be political spectators in the country’s 2023 general elections and democratic processes.

Mr Onogwu Muhammed, Chief Press Secretary to Bello in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja said the governor made this known while speaking at the National Youth Summit/Book Launch in Abuja.

Muhammed said Bello was represented by his Chief of Staff, Jamiu Asuku, at the event titled, “It’s Youth O’clock In Nigeria”.

Bello in his address told the youths that in spite of them representing the largest demography of the nation’s population, their numbers would not count if they refused to participate actively in politics and the 2023 general elections.

“Nigerian youths no longer have any excuse not to take over the nation’s leadership considering the exploits of some young Nigerians in every sector of the nation’s economy.

“Nigeria is waiting for young people to steer the country towards the dreams of its founding fathers because those who gave their lives for the formation of this nation did so at their youthful age.

“Youth no longer have any excuse not to take the lead. We are not just youthful, we are useful and purposeful. This is the time for you to mobilize yourselves and begin an advocacy for youths involvement in governance.

“Most of you sitting down here are above 30 years of age. At 32, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) was already Head of State. He fought the civil war just for Nigeria survival as an indivisible and united entity.

“General Murtala was also pretty young when he became the Head of State and he also made meaningful contributions to the development of our dear state.

“The youth must begin to see themselves as critical stakeholders whose time has come to take over the leadership of this country.

“Achieving this will remain a tall order if the new song of ‘Youth O’clock’ ends on your lips without concerted effort and commitment to participate in politics and electioneering processes in this country”, Bello said.

Bello said that his political life had been a chronicle of doing what people said could not be done, when he threw his hat into the ring as a young Nigerian to run for governorship of Kogi in 2015.

“A lot of people saw me as a joker and a lot of people thought it was impossible; some called me an outsider because I had no godfather,” he added.

CHECK THIS:  DaniLeigh Charged With Assaulting DaBaby Following Arguments

He said his legacies and achievements in office should not be difficult for anyone to search.

According to him, the clamour for youth takeover of leadership will be encouraged and boosted by the sterling performance of those already in the corridors of power.

He urged young Nigerians already leading to promote themselves, advertise their work, record of performance and achievements.

“In like manner, as we think of 2023 – the question of the next leadership of Nigeria, may I challenge you to deploy your considerable resources of office and influence toward crafting the Nigeria of our dreams.

“The youth O’clock song must be heard in every nook and cranny of this country, it is an advocacy that the youth must take to every corner of this great nation,” he said.

He said political leadership was by the virtue of organisation and alliance and commended the Youth Council of Nigeria for realising that the ‘Youth O’clock’ was actually time for the youths in this country to prepare for leadership.

Bello said it is however not enough to be a member of a political party, urging the youth to make themselves visible by having structures all over the country.

Dortmund ‘praying’ Haaland stays next season, says Riedle

Borussia Dortmund legend Karl-Heinz Riedle says the Bundesliga club is ‘praying’ star striker Erling Haaland stays next season as they fend off interest from the Premier League.

“We’re praying he will stay another year at Borussia Dortmund,” Riedle told international media on Friday.

“It will be very difficult to keep him after this season, but he is a crucial player for us.”

Haaland is set to feature on Saturday when Dortmund, who are second in the title race, host leaders Bayern Munich.

Haaland’s contract runs until 2024 but a release clause, reportedly for 80 million euros ($90 million), is said to become active next year.

Injury ruled him out of Dortmund’s 3-1 defeat at Sporting Lisbon last week which ended their chances of reaching the last 16 of the Champions League this season.

The 21-year-old scored as a substitute on his return from a persistent hip injury last Saturday.

His stunning volley at Wolfsburg was his 50th Bundesliga goal in as many games.

CHECK THIS:  Elon Musk sells $6.9bn in Tesla shares after Twitter poll

“It’s quite a miracle he came back so early and you could see the impact he had on the Dortmund team,” Riedle said of Haaland’s cameo.

Dortmund coach Marco Rose expects to again use Haaland off the bench with the towering striker “perhaps not yet ready for 90 minutes” against Bayern.

Despite missing the previous five weeks, Haaland has still managed to score 19 goals for Dortmund and Norway this season.

Manchester United are reportedly among the Premier League clubs chasing Haaland.

Their new interim coach Ralf Rangnick on Friday dismissed reports he would receive a bonus for signing Haaland, but still heaped praise on the Norwegian goal ace.

“Erling is a fantastic forward. I know what he can do, but meanwhile the whole world knows how good he is,” Rangnick quipped.

With an eye on Saturday’s Bundesliga showdown, Riedle says just having Haaland available will be a “big lift for the whole team. You need 11 players in top form to beat Bayern”.

CHECK THIS:  Simi Highlights Gender Stereotypes And Stigma In New Song "Woman"

Haaland scored twice in the opening nine minutes when the clubs met last March before a Robert Lewandowski hat-trick sealed a 4-2 win for Bayern.

Riedle, whose double inspired Dortmund to the 3-1 win over Juventus in the 1997 Champions League final, feels Haaland has a score to settle having had to go off with the match level at 2-2 in Munich.

“He’s really up for this game,” said Riedle.

Record levels of the coronavirus across Germany means Signal Iduna Park — which usually holds 80,000 — will have a maximum crowd of 15,000.

“The atmosphere will still be good,” said Riedle, who works for Dortmund as an international ambassador.

“Due to the problems with covid, it’s better than nothing — the 15,000 will still try to make an atmosphere to help the team.”

At least 17 suspected Omicron cases after Oslo party

At least 17 people who caught Covid-19 after a Christmas party with more than 100 guests in Oslo last week are suspected of having the Omicron variant, officials said Friday.

The number is likely to grow as sequencing is carried out on other positive tests from partygoers.

“So far, 60 people have tested positive (for Covid) with PCR tests, and four with antigen tests,” the city of Oslo said in a statement.

“Seventeen are probably Omicron, but that has yet to be confirmed. So far, one case is confirmed to be Omicron after sequencing.”

The Oslo cluster comes as fears rise that Omicron, which South Africa reported to the World Health Organization on November 24, could be more transmissible and more resistant to vaccines than other strains.

‘No rules broken’
Between 100 and 120 people — all of whom were vaccinated, including one who had recently travelled to southern Africa — had gathered on November 26 for a Christmas party organised by their employer.

“All of them had been vaccinated, none of them had symptoms and they had all done self-tests” before attending the dinner, city health official Tine Ravlo told AFP.

“Everything was done in line with regulations and no rules were broken,” she said.

All of those who have tested positive have so far only had mild symptoms such as headaches, sore throats and coughs, Ravlo said.

Suspicions arose that Omicron was present after some of the tests were screened.

Not all of the tests have been fully analysed through sequencing yet, meaning the number of confirmed cases could grow.

Further results were expected on Friday.

“It is still too early to say whether this event is proof that the Omicron variant is more infectious than the Delta variant,” Preben Aavitsland, a senior official at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, told AFP.

“Super-spreader events also occur with the Delta variant.”

Aavitsland added the outbreak would be the largest of the Omicron variant outside South Africa if the cases were confirmed.

On Thursday, after fears of the suspected cluster emerged, the Norwegian government announced a slew of restrictions in greater Oslo.

Procurements, postings at Refugee Commission in line with procurement act – NCFRMI

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) says media attack would not distract the management.

The establishment is under the Ministry Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

Sampson Ikemitang, Head of Public Relations, in a statement, insists procurement processes and approvals are in line with the Public Procurement Act, 2007.

The spokesman described allegations against the leadership and the Commissioner, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, as baseless and untrue.

Ikemitang highlighted transparency in operations, regarding the assistance and protection of persons of concern (PoCs), as well as in the discharge of mandate.

Recalling that Sulaiman-Ibrahim assumed duty on June 4, 2021, he said NCFRMI has a Board of Directors charged to regulate its affairs for effective service delivery.

The commission, Ikemitang stressed, remains committed to strengthening its internal framework in line with Public Service Rules (PSR).

“Hence, deployments will continue to be carried out as provided in Chapter 2, Section 5, 020502 (v) of PSR.

“It states that where it is in “…public interest, an officer can be seconded to the service of another government, approved body or recognized international organization,”

The agency clarified that in public service, internal staff posting and transfer of pool staff is a routine matter carried out by relevant authorities.

Ikemitang said in line with Global Compact on Refugees, NCFRMI will continue to promote civil rights, enhance self-reliance for PoCs, and maintain partnership with local and international bodies.

“We shall not allow any distraction but remain focused in discharging our duties professionally and responsibly,” he added.

Forget Shiba Inu. These 3 cryptos could make you millions – Solana, Ethereum and HUH Token

This year the cryptocurrency market has solidified its place as the future of money. There is no other market in the world where prices have increased by more than 77.5 million per cent in a single year. Shiba Inu’s meme coin accomplished precisely that. If you invested $1,500 in Siba Inu a year ago, it would be worth more than $1 billion today.

However, Shiba Inu has few practical applications, and its price has skyrocketed largely due to hype. A performance of this magnitude on a repeated basis is nearly impossible. As a result, cryptocurrency investors may prefer Ethereum, Solana, or HUH Token.

HUH Token

HUH Token appears to be the most promising cryptocurrency on this list, owing to the fact that it is about to launch, and if Shiba Inu’s success story has taught us anything, it is that you must get in early.

When HUH Token launches on December 6th, there will be $1 million in liquidity locked in. PancakeSwap and Uniswap, two well-known cryptocurrency exchanges, have agreed to list the exciting new coin with a two-year liquidity guarantee of $500,000 being locked into each.

The purpose of the locked liquidity is to increase investor confidence and stability in this token.

To reinforce this sentiment, HUH Token is launching a referral programme. By referring new investors to HUH Token using a unique referral code, you will earn a 10% commission on their initial investment, Binance coin (BNB) or Ethereum (ETH), depending on which exchange you use.. Holders of this code can earn BNB or ETH indefinitely with each new referral.

The HUH Token is currently in presale, and its founders appear hell-bent on replicating Shiba Inu’s meteoric rise and success.

Additionally, it is rumoured that HUH Token has signed on thousands of top social media influencers to promote it.

HUH Token is currently in its presale, offering potential holders the perfect opportunity to buy.

Ethereum
When it comes to value, it’s difficult to find a cryptocurrency with more robust fundamentals and practical features than Ethereum. Utilising Ethereum’s distributed ledger technology, programmers can create their own blockchains. Smart contracts are computer programmes that run automatically in response to predefined conditions. This means that the network may run smart contracts in addition to storing transaction data. This technology underpins decentralised finance (DeFi) applications, which enable bitcoin borrowing, saving, and lending.

Additionally, DeFi services enable a more affordable and inclusive financial system by removing the reliance on intermediaries such as banks through the use of blockchain technology. As a result, there is currently $170 billion in Ethereum DeFi goods locked in, a more than 1,000% increase over November 2020. As a result, the Ethereum blockchain is the most widely used DeFi ecosystem by a wide margin.

There is a cost associated with the operation of DeFi programmes. This means that transaction fees must be paid in the network’s native coin. In other words, as demand for DeFi services increases, the price of the cryptocurrency increases as well.

Solana
Smart contracts and other decentralised applications can run on Solana’s programmable blockchain, similar to Ethereum (dApps). On the other hand, Solana was designed to be faster and more scalable than other platforms, which could result in a significant increase in its popularity in the future.

To appreciate why this is critical, some context is required. Ethereum’s second stage of upgrade will occur in 2022. Increased computing resources are used to distribute the workload in order to increase throughput. The Ethereum network currently supports 30 transactions per second (TPS), but this will increase to 3,000 TPS once the initial phase is complete.

Solana, on the other hand, is capable of managing 50,000 TPS. Solana is now the world’s fastest blockchain, boasting near-instantaneous transaction confirmations and incredible throughput. Scalability increases as a result of the network’s capacity to handle more traffic than competing networks.

Solana’s DeFi products are currently valued at $14.1 billion, making it the third-largest DeFi ecosystem after Ethereum and the Binance Exchange. A surge in the price of Solana may occur if demand for DeFi services increases and Ethereum’s network cannot keep up.

Avalanche fights Dogecoin and Shiba Inu for top spot – Can HUH Token recreate its success?

This month, Avalanche’s Avax token has performed exceptionally well, fueled by development deals and general optimism about the network’s decentralised financial potential. It is now vying with Dogecoin for a place among the top ten most valuable cryptocurrencies.

HUH Token is hoping to replicate Avax’s success when it launches on the 6th of December. With the pre-sale ending in a few days, could this be the ideal time for them to invest in the next crypto millionaire-making machine?

According to Coinmarketcap, Avax has gained over 100% so far in November, bringing its total market capitalisation to around $29.8 billion, whereas Dogecoin has lost over 11% this month, bringing its total market capitalisation to around $29.5 billion.

Avax was released last year as part of Avalanche’s goal to expand the blockchain’s DeFi capabilities, including smart contracts and other applications to compete with the larger Ethereum network. Avax, like the rest of the crypto complex, has risen this year, but what gave it a boost was its partnership with “Big Four” accounting firm Deloitte.

Avalanche has increased by 37% in the last seven days, while the other top ten cryptocurrencies have decreased. Collaboration with Deloitte, one of the “Big Four” accounting firms and the world’s largest professional services network, was critical in AVAX’s rise to the top ten.

Last Tuesday, Ava Labs, the company behind Avalanche, announced the collaboration with Deloitte to help streamline reimbursement applications for victims of natural disasters.

According to Ava Labs, the new platform provides state and local governments with a decentralised, low-cost, and fully immutable system that empowers grant funders and aid recipients while leveraging blockchain’s transparency to reduce fraud, waste, and abuse.

Most major digital coins have been targeted this month as a result of factors such as the strengthening dollar, new evidence of China’s crackdown on the sector, and the possibility of increased taxes on cryptocurrencies as a result of the new US infrastructure bill.

However, one of the most important takeaways from Avax’s recent success is the importance of getting in on these opportunities early. If a holder had put $100 into Avax when it first launched, they would have made a whopping $26,000. With its pre-sale ending in just a few days, HUH Token could provide holders with an excellent opportunity to get in early.

HUH Token will be available on PancakeSwap and Uniswap. Additionally, in order to make the token more stable and appealing to holders, its creators have announced that $1 million in liquidity will be locked in for two years from its launch.

HUH Token is also launching a referral programme. Holders can refer other people using a unique code and get a 10% commission on that new holder’s initial investment, as Binance (BNB). Holders can earn BNB with each new referral.

HUH Token is also rumoured to have thousands of top social media influencers signed on to promote it, recognising the importance of how communities have driven the majority of the meme cryptocurrencies that have surged to the top of the crypto charts.

The founders of HUH Token appear adamant about replicating the phenomenal success of Dogecoin and Avalanche, with now being the best time to get in on this crypto from the ground up.
